Handspun Eri Silk - trådverk

Handspun Eri Silk

Delicate handspun eri silk, dyed with madder roots in deep red tones.

Eri silk is fluffy and soft, and keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer. Handspun in Assam using using a drop spindle. The silk is cultivated by Assamese tribal communities South West of Guwahati, in homes and backyards, and is harvested after the moths have hatched.

100% eri silk, approximately Nm 50/1 (2500m/100g)

Yarn caking service is not available of this yarn. Please know that this yarn must be handled with great care to prevent it from ripping.

Fibres & Dyes

I use only colours and fibres from nature: Walnut husks, indigo, buckthorn bark and madder roots as my go-to dyestuff. And yarns that I carefully source from environmental and ethical initiatives, and from small family farms.

You can use the wool wash program of your washing machine, or gently wash by hand in lukewarm water using detergent or soap for wool and silk. Gently squeeze the suds through the fabric, taking care not to rub the fabric too much, and avoid steep changes in water temperature as this may cause shrinkage. Rinse the garment in clean water, squeezing gently without twisting or wringing. A short light spin in the washing machine will help remove most of the water. Dry naturally away from direct heat such as radiators and sunlight. Never use a tumble dryer!
